This page covers two things: the Ida website you're reading right now, and the Ida browser extension. "Ida" is a working name and this is an early, small project — there is no company behind it yet, just "the operator" running it. Here is everything either one does with information about you, in plain English, with nothing left out.
This website keeps no accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log into. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and does not track visitors across pages or across visits. Loading a page here fetches a handful of static files — the HTML, the stylesheet, and the register itself — the same way any web page loads, which means the hosting provider sees the same basic request information (like your IP address) that any website's host sees when a browser asks it for a file. Nothing beyond that is collected, stored, or sent anywhere by this site.
The correction form on this site does not submit anywhere on its own — there is no server behind it. When you fill it out and press send, it opens an email addressed to the operator with what you typed filled into the body, using your own email program. Nothing is stored by the website itself; the only record of a correction is the email you choose to send.
The Ida extension reads the brand and manufacturer text already shown on a retailer's own product page — the same words you can see on the page yourself — and does that lookup entirely inside your browser. It does not send what page you're on, what you searched for, or what you looked up to anywhere, ever. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no cookies. It does not know who you are.
The one network request the extension makes is downloading the public register file — the same data this website is built from — from Ida's own site, roughly once a day, so the extension's copy of the register stays current without you having to reinstall it. Making that request necessarily reveals your IP address to the hosting provider, exactly the way visiting any web page does; nothing else about you or your browsing goes along with it, and no reply is stored beyond keeping the downloaded register on your own device.
Neither the website nor the extension collects your name, your email (unless you choose to send one through the correction form), your location beyond the ordinary IP address every network request carries, your purchase history, or a record of the brands you've looked up. There is no aggregate analytics dashboard behind either one today. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it happens, not after.
